Continuous current flowing through protective conductor creates accidents such as shock, arching, and fire, hence no compromise is allowed in the regulations and standards to the provision of protective earthing and equipotential bonding, to safeguard the equipment and personnel.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block5\"><\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<div id=\"viewer-43mqb\" class=\"wyQnS _92a4z KSJjC aey9d\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"UfL7- KSJjC\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block6\"><\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-3qt73\" class=\"wyQnS _92a4z KSJjC aey9d\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"UfL7- KSJjC\">Although functional earthing is essential to ensure reliable operation of sensitive devices and electronic gadgets, the subject is misinterpreted as difference between Neutral and Protective Conductor, as a result the electronic system industry demand a low potential difference between N and PE and the complete confusion starts at this point.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block7\"><\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<div id=\"viewer-6dl27\" class=\"wyQnS _92a4z KSJjC aey9d\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"UfL7- KSJjC\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block8\"><\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-28t75\" class=\"wyQnS _92a4z KSJjC aey9d\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"UfL7- KSJjC\">Following safety measures are mandatory in all electrical installation to avoid risk to the occupants: <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block9\"><\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<ol class=\"cz3gJ kuIFz\">\n<li class=\"_3CGqW\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p id=\"viewer-87vtj\" class=\"wyQnS _92a4z KSJjC aey9d\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"UfL7- KSJjC\">Minimum Insulation resistance between Live conductors (line and neutral together) and protective conductor is 1 M\u03a9 as mentioned in CEA regulations, and all IS code of practices.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_3CGqW\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p id=\"viewer-2r6ou\" class=\"wyQnS _92a4z KSJjC aey9d\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"UfL7- KSJjC\">Maximum PE Conductor Current in equipment (not due to a fault in a.c system) is as per Table 1. Inappropriate connection of neutral and protective conductor downstream the main distribution location, will lead to partial neutral current flow through the protective conductor. Electrical installation shall avoid this neutral circulating current, if not, is certainly a violation of electrical safety.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block17\"><\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<div id=\"viewer-6pu7d\" class=\"_3pLto\">\n<div class=\"ejWuE zc6hD\">\n<div class=\"_48x3x\">\n<table class=\"_340dN\" data-hook=\"table-component\">\n<colgroup>\n<col \/><\/colgroup>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"xNK4s\" data-hook=\"table-plugin-cell\">\n<div class=\"TkbO5 aFmz-\">\n<p id=\"viewer-h1nl08ecj\" class=\"wyQnS _92a4z KSJjC aey9d\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"UfL7- KSJjC\">Quote from IEEE142 <\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"viewer-cmtse\" class=\"wyQnS _92a4z KSJjC aey9d\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"UfL7- KSJjC\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<p id=\"viewer-blocg\" class=\"wyQnS _92a4z KSJjC aey9d\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"UfL7- KSJjC\">\u201c<em>In a commercial or industrial building the neutral or grounded circuit conductor is connected to ground at the service equipment (main panel) and at the secondary side of a separately derived system (isolation transformer). It is not unusual to find the branch circuit distribution panel neutral bus bar connected to the metallic panel frame (ground), which is a violation of the NEC. One study showed 20% of the neutral conductors accidentally faulted to ground in circuits supplying lighting fixtures. With multiple connections of the neutral conductor to ground on the same power system, a portion of the load current flowed on the equipment grounding system to which the electronic equipment was referenced. This current flow transferred voltages into the grounding system of the electronic equipment, causing errors or worse<\/em>\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block18\"><\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-bhu90\" class=\"wyQnS _92a4z Ke2y0 aey9d\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"UfL7-\"><strong>Neutral to earth voltage \u2013 a case study.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block19\"><\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<div id=\"viewer-59u5a\" class=\"wyQnS _92a4z kuIFz aey9d\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"UfL7-\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block20\"><\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<p id=\"viewer-5t35a\" class=\"wyQnS _92a4z KSJjC aey9d\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"UfL7- KSJjC\">Due to the unbalance in load (due to single phase loads), Neutral current existed in the installation where the case study is made. In such case the manufacturer shall provide a facility as below, <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-hook=\"rcv-block32\"><\/div>\n<div data-breakout=\"normal\">\n<ol class=\"cz3gJ kuIFz\">\n<li class=\"_3CGqW\" dir=\"auto\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p id=\"viewer-claoa\" class=\"wyQnS _92a4z KSJjC aey9d\" dir=\"\"><span class=\"UfL7- KSJjC\">Class 1 electronic equipment which require functional earthing shall have separate Protective Earth terminal (PE) and Functional Earth terminal (FE).
